New Star Wars Footage Features The Return Of A 39-Year-Old Monster Created By George Lucas
Star Wars‘ next TV show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, is said to include many head-nods to old Star Wars properties – and has already revealed a look at this 39-year-old creature created by George Lucas himself. Following the completion of the original Star Wars trilogy with Return of the Jedi in 1983, Star Wars actually created a few spin-off series and TV movies, including the 1985 movie The Battle for Endor. This featured not only the Ewoks, but also a brand-new type of creature named the Teek, which Skeleton Crew creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford have since brought back.
In a teaser shared by Star Wars, the first look at a Teek was caught by eagle-eyed viewer Matty T, seen in the background of a shot featuring Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers). It looks as if the creature is holding some type of tool, potentially aiding in an effort to repair something. Considering the fact that the basis for Skeleton Crew‘s story is four children getting lost in space, it’s possible this creature could be working to help them repair something they don’t know how to fix. Either way, it’s an exciting look at something old becoming new once again.
What The Teek’s Return Means For Star Wars
Old Star Wars Material Is Honored
The return of the Teek in Star Wars is very promising, as it proves that modern Star Wars has not forgotten about some of its oldest Star Wars Legends material. For anyone who hopes to continue seeing Star Wars bring back some of these classic elements, this is a wonderful sign. It’s also sure to heighten the nostalgia factor that Skeleton Crew is building upon, though not in a Star Wars specific way. It’s using classic coming-of-age themes from the 1980s, and plucking a creature like this straight from that time is pure perfection.

A Promising Return To Classic Star Wars
The most exciting thing about this first glimpse at the Teek is that it looks absolutely fantastic. It looks just like its older counterpart with some obvious improvements that help it to blend more seamlessly into its environment nearly four decades later. It certainly seems to fit right in with the aesthetic of the show, which is taking these kids through places filled with people and creatures unlike anybody has ever really seen before in Star Wars, aiding the effort in providing a childlike perspective on this familiar galaxy far, far, away.

This is also a very important step for modern Star Wars, as mentioned above, because it proves that they’re still willing to draw upon even some of their oldest Expanded Universe elements. The Battle for Endor has been all but lost amidst the lore that’s developed ever since, and to see these elements making a return so many years later is very encouraging for those who hope that Star Wars will continue to bring things back into the fold over time. Skeleton Crew already seems like the perfect choice for this process, and is doing a wonderful job so far.
