Scarlet Witch’s MCU Return Feels Inevitable In 2024 After 1 MCU Star’s New Comments
Summary
- Agatha All Along hints at Scarlet Witch’s return in the MCU through the possible revival of Wanda from the dead.
- The Witches’ Road may hold the key to bringing back the Scarlet Witch, especially if Joe Locke’s character turns out to be Wiccan.
- The Scarlet Witch’s return is necessary for the MCU to fully explore her character’s potential after her unsatisfying ending.
The Scarlet Witch’s MCU return feels more likely than ever thanks to a line from Agatha All Along. After the success of WandaVision, Marvel started developing a sequel series starring the show’s breakout character, sorcerer Agatha Harkness. The show is set to premiere on September 18 with Kathryn Hahn returning in her fan-favorite role, along with the likes of Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, and Patti LuPone joining the cast. With how WandaVision ended, an Agatha solo show is the most logical follow-up.
WandaVision concluded with Wanda officially becoming the Scarlet Witch and binding Agatha to her Westview role as the nosy neighbor. However, Wanda has since suffered more tragedy in the MCU. Losing her family, she became corrupted by the Darkhold while traveling the multiverse to find her sons. She ultimately sacrificed herself in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in order to destroy the Darkhold, and her death seems to be what has freed Agatha from her curse. If the Scarlet Witch were to return from the dead, Agatha All Along would be the perfect place to do so.

Agatha Harkness is certainly a powerful magician in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but how does she compare to others, both friend and foe?
Agatha’s Joe Locke Just Set Up The Answer To Scarlet Witch’s Return
Many have speculated that Joe Locke’s Agatha All Along character is Wanda’s son Billy Kaplan, also known as Wiccan. The teasers have shown Locke’s character teaming up with Agatha, building up a coven together, and getting ready to traverse the legendary Witches’ Road. Based on one line from Locke’s character, he might’ve already hinted at how the Scarlet Witch could return. In the Agatha All Along teaser aired during Hahn and Locke’s Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance, Locke’s character tells Agatha that “The Road will give you the thing you want the most if you make it to the end.“
In the comics, the Witches’ Road is a plane that only sorcerers can traverse. It is a long and dangerous path, but those who make it through will get the thing they want most. As Wanda’s son, it’d make sense that the thing he wants most is his mother back. Agatha’s coven is made up of outsiders, and even if the variant of Billy in the show isn’t the exact one from WandaVision, him knowing that there’s a universe where he has a loving mother may be enough to pique his curiosity and send him on the Witches’ Road.
Why The MCU Needs To Bring Back Scarlet Witch
For as crucial of a character as she’s been, Scarlet Witch has had one of the MCU’s most unsatisfying endings. Fans were excited to see Scarlet Witch truly in action for the first time in Multiverse of Madness, but the film ended with her death, which was later only confirmed in the official MCU timeline. The MCU spent nearly a decade building up Wanda’s character, which made her transformation into the official Scarlet Witch all the more rewarding. However, only getting to see her full potential in action for one film feels like a waste of her character.
Agatha All Along would be the place to set up Wanda’s return. The comics saw Agatha revive thanks to the Witches’ Road, so perhaps the series will flip the arc on its head and have Wanda revive instead. It feels like Scarlet Witch still has a lot to offer in the MCU, and if any character deserved to return to the franchise, it would be her. Whether Agatha All Along really does set up Wanda’s MCU return remains to be seen, but the show will surely build on the magical lore that she helped develop for the franchise.
