Kevin Feige’s MCU Superhero Return Teases Could Redeem 2 Marvel Teams At Once & I Need It To Happen
I would love to see the Eternals and Inhumans return to the MCU, and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige’s recent comments make me think this is very possible. Marvel Studios has delivered some huge updates in recent months, with Blade being indefinitely delayed, filming wrapping on The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Spider-Man 4’s July 2026 release being confirmed. I am one of many who are very excited about the next few years of the MCU, especially after yet another tease hinting at the return of two major but underutilized superpowered species, the Eternals and the Inhumans.
The Inhumans certainly deserve redemption after the complete failure of Marvel Television’s titular ABC series, 2017’s Inhumans, and Black Bolt’s appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made me think this could finally happen. In recent years, I have been thrilled to see 2021’s Eternals get more recognition and praise, as, despite its flaws, I have loved Chloé Zhao’s MCU directorial debut since its release. While there has been no official word on the Eternals and the Inhumans’ return to the MCU, Kevin Feige’s new comments make me hopeful this will be right round the corner.
Kevin Feige Has Teased The Return Of The Eternals & Inhumans
I Want The Eternals & The Inhumans To Return To The MCU
Marvel Studios has regularly denied the development of any projects focused on the Inhumans or the production of a possible Eternals 2 in the MCU. However, Kevin Feige changed his tune in a recent interview with CinePop at this year’s D23 Brazil, in which he noted it would be great to get Eternals’ strong ensemble cast back into the MCU, while there is also the potential for the Inhumans to return. This is a wildly different sentiment than what Feige and Marvel have previously expressed, which makes me excited about possibly seeing some of my favorite characters back in action.
We’re very proud of
[Eternals]
and that cast was incredible, we’d be lucky to get any of them back at some point. And Inhumans, you know, we had a cameo of Black Bolt in
[Doctor Strange in the] Multiverse of Madness
, and we’ll see where, if and when, they return.
I’m excited to see Marvel Animation’s upcoming What If…? season 3 including some members of the Eternals team on Earth, hinting at their greater significance and continued focus in the MCU’s live-action stories. Anson Mount’s interpretation of Black Bolt in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was far stronger than the version in the Inhumans series, too, so I would love it if Kevin Feige’s comments weren’t without deeper meaning. I think there are many possible places the Eternals and the Inhumans could return to the MCU, and I can’t wait for this to happen.
I Loved 2021’s Eternals & Am Desperate For The Story To Continue
Eternals Released As Part Of The MCU’s Phase 4
I was confused in the wake of Eternals’ premiere in November 2021 when the movie began to receive a huge amount of criticism that I felt was undue. Many felt Eternals’ ambition marked its downfall, as there wasn’t enough time to introduce so many new characters as well as to explore the mythology of Celestials and to detail many pivotal, previously-unseen moments in the MCU’s history. To some extent, I agree with these criticisms, and would have preferred the Eternals had retained their Marvel Comics origins, but these elements did not ruin the movie-going experience for me.

Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed the development of Eternals 2, but there are many other potential MCU projects that can continue the Eternals’ story.
I found Eternals’ ambition to be refreshing for the MCU, and deemed it to be exactly the different, original and authentic piece of cinema that many had been asking for from Marvel Studios. Eternals’ talented ensemble cast was seriously impressive, and the debut of the unknowing superpowered team changed the power status of the MCU forever. I can’t believe this hasn’t been followed-up on yet, and while I would love to see Eternals 2 produced, I reckon early criticisms ruined any existing plans for this project, but I want the Eternals to return nevertheless.
Inhumans Need Redemption In The MCU More Than Any Other Characters
There Are Many Exciting Inhumans In Marvel Comics
While the Eternals have plenty of room to grow, Marvel Studios may need to completely rewrite the history of Inhumans in the MCU. ABC’s Inhumans series is widely regarded as one of the weakest Marvel projects released in recent history, as it rendered the Inhumans’ narrative nothing more than a soap opera that was lackluster, energy-less and drab. In the few minutes he appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Anson Mount’s Black Bolt had more of an impact than he did in an entire season of Inhumans, making me hopeful other characters could get this honor.
Marvel Studios originally announced
Inhumans
as a movie set to release as part of the MCU’s Phase 3, but it was reworked into a Marvel Television series spinning off from
Agents of SHIELD
instead.
I would love for other significant members of the Inhumans species to be redesigned and reinvented for the MCU proper, allowing us to finally forget the Inhumans series, and be introduced to more faithful and formidable versions of these iconic characters. Notable Inhuman characters could return to the MCU, allowing the likes of Medusa, Crystal, Maximus the Mad and many others to get real development. Kevin Feige’s comments have me thinking this could now be possible, with them all following in Black Bolt’s footsteps from Phase 4, expanding the MCU in some brilliant ways.
Where Could The Eternals & Inhumans Return To The MCU?
Eternals & Inhumans Fit Into Many Upcoming MCU Projects
While it might be unlikely that Marvel Studios would put a follow-up to Inhumans or a sequel to Eternals into development, I reckon there are still many great upcoming MCU projects that could include the Eternals and Inhumans. Eternals revealed the titular species to be inherently cosmic, so I could imagine them showing up in possible projects such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4, Thor 5, or adaptations of Marvel Comics Annihilation or Judgment Day storylines, which have been rumored. It would also be great to see them return in Phase 6’s Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

The Multiverse Saga’s Avengers movies would also be a great place for more Inhumans to appear, especially if they are introduced as the inhabitants of an alternate universe like Black Bolt was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I can see the Inhumans following a similar storyline to the Wakandans in the MCU, as they are also a major hidden society full of history, secrets and superpowered people. I’d love to see both the Eternals and the Inhumans get more attention in the MCU, and, alongside the debut of the MCU’s X-Men team, this has me very excited.
