Since Time Cut‘s time-travel drama unfolds in two alternate timelines, it is hard not to question how old its main characters, Lucy and Summer, are in each. Although Time Cut is fairly linear compared to most high-concept time travel movies, it uses its sci-fi elements to introduce several intriguing twists and turns. After initially revealing how the murder of four teenagers in 2003 rippled into the future and impacted the life of a young girl, Lucy, in 2024, Time Cut begins its time travel story.

In its opening arc, it shows how Lucy coincidentally comes across a time machine that sends her back to 2003, allowing her to alter her sister’s fate, who was one of the four murdered teenagers. Her journey to save her sister comes with its own set of challenges that make Lucy question whether changing the past would be worth it. Since Time Cut‘s time travel drama unfolds in several different timelines, it can be baffling for some viewers to determine how old Lucy and Summer are in each.

Summer Is 18 Years Old In 2003

Summer Is 39 Years Old In 2024’s Alternate Timeline

Time Cut does not seem to explicitly mention Summer’s age in the 2003 timeline. However, since it establishes that she is a high school senior who is about to graduate, it seems likely she is close to 18 years old. As the movie’s opening arc establishes, she dies at 18 when the Sweetly Slasher targets her during a high school party. Since Lucy later jumps back to 2003 through the time machine and ends up in the year only a few days before Summer’s death in the OG timeline, Summer is around 18 when she first meets Lucy.

Since Summer was 18 in 2003, she must have been around 39 in the new 2024 timeline.

In Time Cut‘s ending moments, Lucy manages to save Summer from the Sweetly Slasher, which wipes her own existence but ensures her sister lives to see 2024. The movie does not portray what happens in the new 2024 timeline. However, after returning to 2003, Lucy reveals that her parents did not recognize her, confirming that they never had a second child because Summer lived. Since Summer was 18 in 2003, she must have been around 39 in the new 2024 timeline.

Since Lucy is also portrayed as a high school graduate who lands an internship at NASA in the 2024 timeline, she is about 18 years old in 2024. When she travels back to 2003, she technically does not exist because she was born after her sister’s death. If she is 18 in 2024, she was likely born 3 years after her sister died in 2003. Therefore, she is around 3 years from being born when she travels back in time to visit her sister in 2003.

Given how Quinn, too, is the same age as Summer in the 2003 timeline, he was likely around 39 when he finally created the time machine and traveled to the past to kill Summer and her friends. A 39-year-old version of Quinn also probably exists in the alternate 2024 timeline, and he might have even invented the time machine again. However, since Lucy’s arrival in Time Cut‘s 20023 timeline helps Quinn realize that people still care about him, his new version in the 2024 timeline would not have used the machine to return to 2003 and become the Sweetly Slasher.
