Marvel Just Retconned WandaVision’s Post-Credits Scene, & Made Scarlet Witch’s Fall Even More Tragic

New details from the MCU’s latest series Agatha All Along help to explain the ending of WandaVision, and to provide the Scarlet Witch’s villainous motivations with a much greater explanation. Episode 6 of Agatha All Along spent much of its runtime exploring the backstory of William Kaplan and provided an engaging explanation for how Teen could be the son of Wanda Maximoff. This was done through incredible action and story details that integrated perfectly with the WandaVision series.

The identity of Teen in Agatha has been revealed, although it appears that the implications of that are enormous and are still being addressed. The most recent episode of the series showed William Kaplan, a boy from Eastview, getting into a car accident and being taken over by the soul of Billy Maximoff. This event has raised even more questions than it has answered. However, it also has recontextualized a notable scene from WandaVision that affected the entire plot of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Scarlet Witch Really Did Sense Billy & Tommy’s Souls

Billy And Tommy’s Souls Are Shown To Have Escaped The Hex

The ending of WandaVision saw the voices of Billy and Tommy calling out to their mother. This led to the multiversal events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, although these new details from Agatha suggest that Wanda’s sons were still in her original universe, waiting to be found. Billy’s soul found William’s body, and some part of him was calling out for Wanda, leading to the Scarlet Witch’s ending in that series. She really did sense the souls of her children.

All of this raises the question of where is Tommy in the MCU. If Billy’s soul could have been bonded to another body, it seems likely that Tommy would have done so as well. While their souls were constructed from Wanda’s chaos magic, it appears that they did each take on lives of their own. It seems likely now that Billy is looking for his brother on the Witches’ Road, and that this will be a major story point throughout the rest of the series.

Were Both Billy & Tommy Bound By Sigils?

The Latest Agatha Episode Makes This Seem Likely

In the latest episode, Patti Lupone’s Lilia is shown to have placed the sigil on William, which kept him from being able to reveal his identity to the Coven. This was an interesting scene, because it took place before Billy took over William’s body. This suggests that perhaps a larger plan was already in place for Wanda’s children. Sigils may have been placed on both of the boys, or on both of the bodies that each of the two were intended to inhabit.

William’s car crash near the Hex seemed to be a fortuitous coincidence, although this scene suggests there may have been greater intentionality behind this event. If Billy had a sigil placed on him, then Tommy likely could have as well. This would explain why Scarlet Witch was unable to find her children inside of her universe, as knowledge of them would have been blocked by these sigils, which sent her searching for her sons in other universes.

We Now Know Why Scarlet Witch Was So Desperate To Find Her Children

Billy Maximoff Is Alive In The MCU, And Tommy Likely Is Too

Scarlet Witch’s search for her children across the multiverse seemed to come out of a place of desperation after having lost everything that was important to her. While this is still part of the truth, Billy’s existence in the MCU shows that there were far greater and more realistic motivations behind her actions. Wanda could hear her sons calling out for her in her own universe, and she knew that she had to find them. She could not get these real voices out of her head, and that is what led her to madness.

None of this excuses Wanda’s actions, or changes the fact of Wanda’s status in the MCU. However, this important context has helped to explain Wanda’s motivations better. With Billy being alive in the universe but not being able to reach his mother due to the Sigil, Wanda would have been driven to desperation in an attempt to rescue and take care of her children. As far as Wanda knows, they are still young, alive, and in great need of her help.

Agatha All Along episode 5 confirmed that Joe Locke is playing Billy Maximoff’s Wiccan in the MCU, and episode 6 revealed his new origin story.

Billy’s journey in the remaining episodes of Agatha All Along is exciting, and will surely provide many additional twists and turns throughout the rest of the series. While Teen’s identity was a huge mystery, it seems that even that reveal will only lead to more mysteries. Anticipation for the relationship between him and Agatha, the potential search for Tommy, and the reveal of whatever awaits them at the end of the Witches’ Road should be more than enough to keep audiences engaged with Agatha All Along for the rest of its run.
