Star Wars Debuts the Most Badass Ewok in the Franchise

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Ewoks #1

Star Wars has debuted one of the most badass Ewoks in the official canon. Set in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi and the Battle of Endor, a new Ewoks series from Marvel has revealed that the Empire isn’t quite done with the forest moon. While the Rebellion might have left to keep fighting the remaining Imperials, the tribes of Bright Tree village now have to reconcile with new threats on their own, and this includes the mighty warrior known as Meedro.

As seen in Marvel’s new and canonical Ewoks #1 by Steve Olando, Alvaro Lopez, and Laura Braga, a task force of Imperials and bounty hunters is returning to claim a secret weapons cache hidden away on the forest moon on Endor. Meanwhile, young Wicket has joined a hunt with Meedro, a mysterious and lone Ewok warrior who protects Bright Tree on the outskirts of their village. To that end, there’s a lot Wicket can learn from the older warrior, especially after Meedro saves his new sidekick from a dangerous creature known as a Temptor:

Learning from Meedro and his impressive skills, it’s going to be very exciting to see how Wicket himself grows as an Ewok warrior in his own right during this new Star Wars series. However, Meedro himself may find himself learning from Wicket as well.

During a tribe meeting at the beginning of this new Star Wars comic, Wicket suggests that the Ewoks of Bright Tree learn how to join ther song with new outsiders who come to their moon. After all, it was Wicket who first met and befriended Princess Leia when the Rebels came to Endor, motivating the Ewoks to help them fight off the Imperials who invaded their home and whom they call “The Cruel Ones”. However, it’s Meedro who advises caution and that the tribes should be wary, as outsiders like the Empire can come with weapons seeking to harm.

As such, it seems Wicket is seeking to learn and become a great warrior, hence his desire to join Meero on his hunts on the outskirts of their village. Wicket also confirms Meedro’s legendary status as a mysterious loner who’s killed temptors and a beast known as a Gorax. It’s that Meedro is a dedicated warrior, despite his decision to typically keep his fellow Ewoks at arm’s length.

Wicket tries to understand why Meedro keeps to himself when living on the outskirts is so much harder, and Meedro says worrying about others is a dangerous distraction. After all, he did just have to save Wicket from a temptor. However, Meedro also confirms that he fought the “Cruel Ones” and did so by himself. As such, the fact that a lone Ewok warrior had success against the Empire is quite impressive, adding to his legendary status at the beginning of this new Star Wars series. That said, one can bet Wicket will likely convince Meedro that joining with others Ewoks can become a true strength as well.
