Liam Neeson’s Exciting New Action Movie Continues A Trend That Started 16 Years Ago With $226M Hit
Liam Neeson’s upcoming film Absolution continues a trend that started nearly two decades ago in one of his most iconic films. Neeson, who turned 72 in 2024, is keeping up his momentum as one of the best leading actors in action movies working in Hollywood today with 2024’s Absolution. Many of Neeson’s best action films are essentially one-person army tales that portray the talented actor’s physical tour-de-force performances. Absolution appears to fit right in that category.
The trailer of Absolution stars Neeson as an aging gangster trying to escape his dark past. The film, directed by Hans Peter Moland (Cold Pursuit, Aberdeen) and written by Tony Gayton (Hell on Wheels, Murder by Numbers), also stars Ron Perlman, Frankie Shaw, and Daniel Diemer. Neeson, an Academy Award nominee for 1993’s Schindler’s List, has nearly 200 television and movie acting credits to his name after making his feature film debut in 1978’s Pligrim’s Progress.
Absolution
will be released on November 1, 2024.
Absolution Is Another Family-Driven Action Movie From Liam Neeson
Neeson has starred in many similar films after the success of Taken
Absolution is yet another Liam Neeson movie that places his character in a situation where he must fight to protect his family. This may sound familiar to fans of Neeson’s other action thrillers such as Cold Pursuit (2019), Retribution (2023), and of course, the Taken trilogy (2008–2014). Taken is the movie that really turned Neeson into an action star, but he’s also made a few movies that have been centered around the idea of saving or avenging his family in some way, which is obviously at the heart of Taken as well.
Absolution sounds like another one of those classic Neeson premises that is sure to satisfy his most devoted fans. Absolution was filmed and takes place in Boston and could allude to some of the historic gangs and mobs that many other celebrated films have focused on, such as Black Mass and The Departed. Cold Pursuit was also Neeson’s last well-received action thriller, earning a Certified Fresh score of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is another positive indicator for Absolution.
Absolution Can Continue Liam Neeson’s Strong 2024
In The Land of Saints and Sinners is his highest-rated film in years
While not all of Neeson’s movies land with critics and audiences, the celebrated actor is poised to have a strong showing in 2024 with the release of Absolution in November and In The Land of Saints and Sinners, which also has its U.S. release this year. In The Land of Saints and Sinners is one of Neeson’s highest-rated movies in years, earning a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 83%., which is just 12% less than the combined RT critic score of all three Taken movies combined. Hopefully, Absolution can also be a big part of Neeson’s promising year in film.
