What’s Wrong With Fatima & Her Baby In From Season 3?
From season 3, episode 2, “When We Go,” has prompted viewers to wonder even more about what’s wrong with Fatima’s unborn baby. A few episodes before From season 2’s cliffhanger ending, Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) learned that she was pregnant after asking Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) for a test at the Clinic. Instead of being excited by the news, Fatima kept the development to herself. In fact, the very first person in From‘s cast of characters that Fatima told about her pregnancy was Donna (Elizabeth Saunders), the fiercely loving head of Colony House. Donna’s rare optimism proves both jarring and helpful.
With Donna wanting to celebrate the big news, Fatima explains her hesitancy. Before arriving in From‘s Town, Fatima learned that she wasn’t able to conceive children. This makes the pregnancy something of a miracle. However, given the Township’s increasingly supernatural and aggressive developments, the mother-to-be is rightly worried that the miracle is actually a harbinger of something nefarious. Donna assures Fatima that she’s defied the odds before; Fatima found Ellis (Corteon Moore), the love of her life, after becoming trapped. Still, From season 3, episode 2’s reveals make it hard not to worry about Fatima’s seemingly miraculous pregnancy.
Fatima’s Pregnancy Is Making Her Extremely Sick & Only Able To Eat The Rotten Crops
Marielle Examines Fatima & Suggests She’s Extremely Malnourished
In From season 3, episode 1, Fatima spends a long time in the bathroom, navigating her morning sickness — though the pregnancy makes her even more sick in the season’s second outing. Locked inside another one of Colony House’s bathrooms, an exhausted Fatima stops getting sick long enough to stand at the sink. Outside, Ellis presses his ear to the door, insisting that they visit Kristi at the Clinic. Although Fatima is dismissive of the idea, what happens next eclipses her avoidance. When she coughs up blood, Fatima reaches into her mouth and discovers that one of her teeth has fallen out.

When Ellis and Fatima arrive at the Clinic, Kristi isn’t in, so Marielle (Kaelen Ohm), who’s a pediatric nurse, checks Fatima’s vitals. After completing the check-up, Marielle concludes that Fatima is incredibly malnourished. Since the Township is facing a dire food shortage, this isn’t necessarily shocking news. In fact, severe cases of malnutrition can lead to tooth loss. Marielle is optimistic that getting some food down will cure Fatima’s symptoms of malnourishment, which makes Ellis feel much better. However, Fatima still seems unconvinced. And given From‘s monsters and other supernatural happenings, it’s hard to take the diagnosis at face value.
When Fatima returns to Colony House, she lingers on the porch before heading inside. A few other residents have gathered all the rotten crops from Colony House’s gardens in crates on the porch. According to one of the residents, they plan to compost what’s salvageable. In an earlier episode, Donna called the soil “poisoned,” so it’s hard to imagine the composting yielding any beneficial results. Still, Fatima is drawn to the rotting vegetables. Once she’s alone, Fatima ravenously gathers several rotten root vegetables and eats them with vigor. The disturbing scene suggests something else is wrong with her pregnancy.
What The Baby Wanting Rotten Crops Means For Fatima In From Season 3
Fatima Revealed In From Season 2 That She Couldn’t Get Pregnant
While it’s not yet clear what the unborn baby wanting rotten crops means for Fatima, it can’t be good news. Pregnancy can certainly cause some unusual cravings, but the rotten crops — which turned bad overnight — are definitely a negative sign. It’s possible the Township, and the other forces at work, have influence over Fatima’s baby. If it craves rotten crops from ruined soil, the baby’s origins are likely very dark. Sadly, the miraculous nature of the pregnancy paired with the baby’s desire for rot sets the stage for Fatima’s tragic fate in future episodes of From season 3.
