Summary

- There is some real potential for a live-action Superman: Red Son movie under Gunn and Safran’s DC regime.
Superman: Red Son is adapted as a live-action DC movie in a new fan production, showing a very different Man of Steel. One of the DC icons who is constantly depicted outside of the comics is Superman, with various media adaptations throughout the decades. As there have been numerous actors to play Superman in live-action, Krypton’s last son continues to grow his legacy on the big and small screens – set to expand yet further with the upcoming DCU Superman movie debut.
Given the character’s popularity, he also has a considerable range of fan made projects that also delve into the Man Of Steel’s considerable comic history. Time Capsule Productions recently shared a fan adaptation of Superman: Red Son, bringing Mark Millar’s storyline from 2003 to life.
Titled Red Son: Genesis, the project was directed and written by Luke Harris, who also stars as the alternative version of Superman in the film. The Red Son: Genesis cast also includes Linda De La Fonteijne as Lois Lane, Peter Welch as Lex Luthor, Sean Phillips as John Stewart, and Len Nash as Jimmy Olsen.

How A Live-Action Superman: Red Son Could Actually Happen
While James Gunn’s DC Universe will be the primary franchise that Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios will focus on when it comes to DC, there will still be the Elseworlds banner, which is where universes like The Batman and Joker fit in. Once the main continuity has gotten up and running, it will make more sense to look into more Elseworlds stories. Even though no projects have been announced yet under Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC regime to be specifically produced under Elseworlds, a live-action Superman: Red Son movie could be a logical candidate to happen under their run.
The idea of seeing a Superman: Red Son movie in live-action sparked earlier this year, as Matthew Vaughn expressed his interest in directing a film based on that storyline with Henry Cavill. Whether or not Cavill would ever do it is a separate issue, but with a big filmmaker like Vaughn, it would be interesting to see how his directing style would fit this particular Elseworlds story. Something like Superman: Red Son would also be a good one-off Elseworlds film, without having to suddenly create a whole franchise in that universe.
With the amount of popular Elseworlds books that exist under DC Comics, something like Superman: Red Son will hopefully be a prime candidate to be explored in live-action and open up the gates for prospective future Elseworld adaptations. Superman: Red Son was even adapted as an animated movie, making it especially interesting to also see a big-screen take on the story. But for now, the world will have to wait and see if Superman: Red Son ever gets the Hollywood experience.
