Superman & Lois Just Confirmed Superman’s Death Was So Much Worse Than It Seemed
Superman & Lois has always been about deep and rich characters, and the latest episode of the DC Universe series revealed how painful the loss of the Man of Steel was after Doomsday killed him. Superman has died in many different ways onscreen, and many believe that the version of the “Death of Superman” story told in Superman & Lois is one of the best. With emotional stakes, excellent characterization, and storytelling that creatively and respectfully uses and twists the comic book canon, the series has told many original stories.
With Superman’s powers waning and an investigation into Lex Luthor’s love life, the series has created a very real, lived-in world populated with complex characters. The heart of the series has been investigating Superman’s family dynamic, including his relationship with his sons. However, the show has gone even bigger with the scale of this, exploring life and family dynamics within the town of Smallville. Following this, the story of Lois in the CW series has taken a deeply upsetting turn.
Lois’ Season 4 Story Makes Superman’s Death Even More Painful
Lois Lane’s Cancer Story Makes Her Suffering That Much Heavier
Superman & Lois has featured the saddest Lois Lane story in its past season, with the reporter being diagnosed with breast cancer. Season 3 of the show saw Lois discover this and reel from the fallout of it. This disturbing realization forced her to confront her own mortality in interesting ways throughout the season. In Superman & Lois episode 8, Lois finally receives some relief, as it is shown that her struggle against the illness has been won. However, the fact this came so late gives painful context to Superman’s death.
Following the loss of her own father, Sam Lane, Lois was also forced to grapple with what seemed to be the permanent death of her husband. As the intrepid reporter struggled with continued suffering at the thought that her cancer could take her own life away, she watched as her husband was beaten and killed. This would have put even more pressure on her to survive for the sake of their sons. This hopeless suffering was made even heavier in its wake, with the show’s genuinely evil version of Lex Luthor’s horrifying actions.
Lois’ DC Show Story Makes Superman & Lois’ Second Clark Kent Death Tease Worse Again
Superman’s Heart Is Beginning To Fade
Following the death of Superman, Clark was eventually brought back with a version of Sam Lane’s heart. This heart has given him the push that he has needed in the latest episodes, however it has also been revealed that Superman is now losing his powers. Sam’s human heart can only do so much for the hero, and it seems that he is now becoming progressively more weakened. This has led to speculation that the hero may in fact die by the end of the series.
Following everything that Lois Lane has gone through in this past season, this ending would be genuinely heartbreaking. Lois has only finally come out of her cancer treatment, and must still be working through mourning the loss of her father. Adding the tensions of losing and regaining and then losing Clark again would be too painful for the character. Superman is depended on and needed by his wife and children, and it is important that the hero survive to live out his days with them.

I Can’t Believe Lex Luthor Getting Beat Up By Superman Ended Up Being Part Of His Villain Plan On Superman & Lois
The latest episode of Superman & Lois shows that a previous victory by the Man of Steel may actually contribute to his ultimate downfall.
While Superman is losing his powers, the hero will hopefully be able to live out the rest of his life as a human being after the end of Superman & Lois. Giving Clark this opportunity to rest after all that he has offered to the world would be the right ending for him, but it would be even more necessary for characters like Lois. Simply, Lois has received too much pain and suffering, and the character deserves a win. Hopefully The CW sees fit to give her the ending that she deserves.
Superman & Lois, the seventh Arrowverse spinoff series, will take the titular characters from Metropolis to Smallville. The CW series is set in the aftermath of the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, which saw the multiverse collapse and the merging of worlds into what is now Earth Prime. Superman & Lois sees Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) dealing with all the pressures of their jobs, along with being parents to two teenage sons. Lois and Clark are no strangers to the Arrowverse, with Hoechlin’s Superman having been introduced all the way back in Supergirl season 2. Meanwhile, Tulloch’s Lois made her debut in the 2018 “Elseworlds” crossover. The duo is joined by a growing cast of characters that includes a new iteration of Lana Lang.
