Andor Season 2 Ending Confirmed By Creator, Direct Rogue One Connection Revealed
Andor season 2’s creator, Tony Gilroy, has revealed exactly how the show will end, teasing a massive connection to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Andor season 2’s story was always expected to tie into Rogue One, given that the former’s titular character was first introduced to Star Wars in the latter. Regardless, this has not stopped Star Wars theories from being crafted, centering around how Andor‘s cast of characters will end up at the point they were found in Rogue One‘s opening scenes. Now, Gilroy has explained how the upcoming Star Wars show will connect to its sister project.
This information was given by Gilroy to Empire Magazine, with the outlet focusing on Andor season 2 in their 2025 preview issue. The issue explored the story decisions that went into Andor season 2, including the reduction from five seasons to two and the show’s timeline that will span four years in 12 episodes. Gilroy revealed that this timeline always had an endpoint, revealing Andor season 2’s connections to Rogue One:
“There’s no mystery about where we’re going. We are going to end up on that walk out to the ship with K-2 and go to the Rings of Kafrene and start “R
ogue One”
. But why is Cassian going? He’s going because there’s been some intel.”
As Gilroy alludes to, The Rings of Kafrene are featured in the opening of Rogue One. Cassian Andor travels to the planet to uncover intel about the Empire’s kyber crystal shipments, leading him to discover the construction of the Death Star. As evident by Gilroy’s comments, Andor season 2 will end right before this mission, tying the show and the movie inextricably together.
Andor Season 2’s Ending Will Redefine Rogue One
Andor Will Give Rogue One New Context
What Gilroy’s comments about Andor season 2’s ending prove is that the show will redefine Rogue One. Although the show’s ties to the 2016 movie have always been evident, these revelations about Andor‘s ending prove how closely connected to Rogue One it will truly be by the time of its final episode. After Andor season 2, whenever a rewatch of the show commences, it will feed directly into Rogue One and likely make a rewatch of the latter necessary too.

Where Rogue One’s Other Major Characters Are During Andor Season 1
Despite the fact Andor follows one of the protagonists of Rogue One, many characters did not make an appearance as they were busy elsewhere.
However, upon a rewatch of Rogue One, all of Andor‘s context will be fresh in the minds of viewers. From Andor’s journey and character arc to the reveals of the Rebel Alliance’s origins and those of the Death Star, Rogue One will feel much more impactful due to the story of Andor. Both stories will be bound together thanks to Andor‘s ending, bringing with it the character arcs, emotions, set-up, and payoff that will redefine Rogue One completely.
Our Take On Andor Season 2’s Ending
Overall, I am incredibly happy about Gilroy’s comments regarding Andor season 2’s ending. Where Rogue One is concerned, it is often counted as one of the best Star Wars movies produced by Disney. This is certainly an opinion I share, with Rogue One only having been made better for me due to how much I loved Andor season 1. Now, Andor season 2 is set to tie into Rogue One more than the show ever has, which will only benefit the latter project.
As one of Disney’s best Star Wars films, Rogue One will be improved upon nine years after it was first released. Andor‘s fantastic writing and storytelling will, as I alluded to, become bound to Rogue One. As a result, what was already one of the best Disney Star Wars films will only become even better in hindsight, proving Andor to not only be a fantastic standalone project but also one that is reshaping how good other stories in a galaxy far, far away truly are.
Diego Luna stars as Cassian Andor in Andor, a Disney+ exclusive series set five years before Rogue One. The series follows the titular character as he transitions from a humble thief to a revolutionary icon of the rebellion against the empire. Cassian, a man who tries to keep himself out of confrontations post the destruction of his world, is shoved into the central conflict as he naturally slots into the role of leader. Andor will explore the rebellion’s burgeoning days and highlight pivotal events in the Star Wars Franchise before the construction of the Death Star.
