DC Just Introduced A God-Tier Justice League Member You’ll Never See In Live-Action

Summary

  • My Adventures With Superman
season 2 episode 5 features a cameo by Chandi Gupta, who becomes the superhero Maya in the comics.
  • In the source material, Chandi Gupta is an Indian superhero with mystical abilities that can theoretically surpass Superman’s strength and speed.
  • Chandi’s powers are too unbalanced and vague for a live-action Justice League movie, and they would need drastic changes to be suitable for live-action.

My Adventures with Superman introduces a hero too powerful for most live-action DC projects, including those in the DCEU and the DCU. There are various DC characters who can go toe to toe against Superman, like General Zod, Bizarro, Lobo, and certain powerful versions of Lex Luthor. Others can be even more powerful than the Man of Steel, such as Doomsday and Darkseid. So far, the latter two villains are the two main characters who have given Superman his biggest challenges in terms of strength, both in the comics, in animated shows, and in live-action Superman movies and TV series.

In My Adventures With Superman season 2 episode 5, Kara Zor-El arrives on Earth in search of her cousin Kal-El, who’s busy attending Metropolis’ “Most Eligible Bachelor and Bachelorette” contest. Superman is preoccupied with maintaining his secret identity and personal life a secret while also trying not to put his relationship with Lois in danger. Meanwhile, Kara tries to convince Superman to join her in her efforts to conquer the Earth. When Superman refuses, a fight erupts, leaving Superman knocked out and Kara taking him away with her. Amidst this chaos, one obscure DC character makes a cameo that can be missed easily.

Who Is Chandi Gupta In DC Comics?

The “Most Elisible Bachelor and Bachelorette” contestants in My Adventures with Superman season 2 episode 5 include Superman, Hank Henshaw, Silver St. Cloud, Byrna Brilyant, and Chandi Gupta. In DC Comics lore, Chandi Gupta is an Indian superhero who adopts the moniker “Maya”. At first she was only able to create a psionic bow, but later, Maya developed the ability to manifest fire, water, and pure energy, as well as the ability to enhance her own abilities to unlimited levels. Thanks to her mystical powers, Chandi Gupta could theoretically raise her strength and speed beyond Superman’s.

DC’s New Superman Show Is Giving Him X-Men ’97’s Wolverine Treatment (& I Love It)

My Adventures with Superman season 2 is underway, and the DC animated series makes a decision with the Man of Steel that X-Men ’97 did with Wolverine.

Chandi Gupta officially became a superhero when she intervened in the Justice League of Europe’s fight with the sound-manipulating supervillain Sonar, whom she defeated effortlessly by herself. The alien villain Overmaster possessed Maya’s body and intended to destroy the whole planet with her abilities, but Maya’s former mentor, the Mahayogi, sacrificed his own life to break the spell. Soon after, the Justice League of Europe (where Superman supporting character Metamorpho participates) disbanded, and Chandi Gupta seemingly lost interest in superheroics.

Why Chandi Gupta Probably Won’t Feature In A Live-Action Justice League Movie

Justice League DCEU Movie Poster featuring the full cast together

Chandi Gupta a.k.a. Maya’s power is incredibly unbalanced in comparison to her team, even more so than Superman in relation to the Justice League of America. Maya’s powers are also rather vague, as in theory, she can manifest any weapon and enhance her body in any way she wants. Given that Maya’s abilities have a mystical origin, she could also hurt Superman due to his vulnerability to magic. While James Gunn’s interest in lesser-known comic book characters could give My Adventures with Superman‘s Chandi Gupta a chance to appear in the DCU, she would have to go through a few drastic changes to work within the same universe as the rest of DC heroes and villains.
