Series creator Ryan Murphy took a chance on the football star by casting him in his first acting role in FX’s horror TV show. Kelce’s first TV show being a dark Gothic mystery is something of a surprise. However, if there’s one thing Murphy loves more than a good script, it’s stunt casting. And it may be Kelce’s first gig, but Grotesquerie‘s cast also includes seasoned stars like Niecy Nash-Betts. She plays detective Lois Tyron, who is being tormented by serial killer Grotesquerie.

Kelce takes on a more supporting role as Ed Lachlan, who doesn’t show up until Grotesquerie season 1, episode 3. Even after his introduction, Eddie’s role in the FX show isn’t entirely clear. Although he and Lois clearly bond during their first meeting — and they have a lot in common given their experiences with alcoholism — Eddie feels like an odd addition. Fortunately, the details and purpose of Kelce’s character are much clearer by the time Grotesquerie season 1’s ending arrives.

Both Versions Of Eddie Have An Affair With Lois

Kelce is tasked with playing two versions of Eddie in Grotesquerie, and they’re both incredibly different characters. The Eddie viewers meet initially is a hospital orderly who is recovering from alcoholism. The other is still drinking and works at Cinnabon. One version of Eddie is clean-cut and well-mannered, while the other is messier and has a mullet. The reason Kelce portrays two Eddies is because Lois is in a coma and hallucinating an alternate reality. The straight-edge version of Kelce’s character is a figment of her imagination, while the other is the real one.

What both versions of Eddie have in common is their lusty affair with Lois and their romantic relationship with her daughter, Merritt (Raven Goodwin). Lois’ hallucination of Eddie runs off with her before hitting it off with Merritt. The real Eddie is already married to Merritt, who wants to divorce him. She is even more disgruntled when she discovers he has been cheating on her with Lois. Clearly, Eddie’s Grotesquerie narrative is a complicated one, making it an even more surprising choice for Kelce’s first acting role.

Kelce’s Eddie Survives, But His Mullet Does Not

Hell hath no furry like a woman scorned, so it’s surprising Kelce’s adulterous character doesn’t get the boot at the end of Grotesquerie season 1. Surprisingly, Eddie is one of the few characters who makes it out alive. His fate is a questionable one, as he shaves off his mullet and joins a men’s rights group. “[It is about] support and brotherhood because we all got one thing in common,” he says. He even convinces Lois’s husband Marshall (Courtney B. Vance) to join the group with him.

Eddie is adamant the group is not a religious one, but it is revealed to be quite anti-feminist. It’s an interesting ending for a character who is in love with two very powerful women in a female-driven show. It’s also a lucky one, considering the last big crime-scene has mostly male victims, including Lois’ doctor, Charlie. Episode 10 ends without revealing who the serial killer is. With Kelce’s Ed still alive, he might be able to step into an even bigger role if Grotesquerie is greenlit for season 2.
