Marvel’s Female Avengers Cast (As We Know It)

Marvel’s Female Avengers Cast (As We Know It)

An all-female Avengers project in the MCU has been rumored for several years, with speculation growing after Avengers: Endgame’s A-Force tease. The MCU began with 2008’s Iron Man, which laid the foundations for an interconnected universe of superheroes adapted from Marvel Comics. Since then, the MCU has grown exponentially, and a huge number of female superheroes have been introduced, including the stars of Captain Marvel, WandaVision, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Black Widow. Male superheroes have been in the spotlight for most of the franchise’s history, but the MCU’s female heroes now have the potential to become something greater.

Avengers: Endgame featured most of the MCU’s superheroes banding together in battle against the Mad Titan Thanos, but the Phase 3 movies’ final battle also featured a cathartic “girl power” moment. While seeing a number of the MCU’s female heroes join forces during the Battle of Earth was an exciting moment upon first viewing, this potential A-Force tease has been criticized for forcing fan service and for making little sense in Endgame’s overall storyline. However, this moment ignited interest in an all-female MCU Avengers team, which may be easier now that Marvel Studios has introduced even more powerful female superheroes.

Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, A.K.A. Captain Marvel

Last Seen In The Marvels (2023)

Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, was the first female superhero to lead a solo MCU movie, so she’s a straightforward pick for an all-female Avengers team. Danvers received her abilities after absorbing the energy from a Tesseract-powered engine in Captain Marvel, and spent the next three decades fighting crime across the universe. Carol Danvers has been featured in a number of projects since her first appearance in her 2019 solo film.

At the end of The Marvels, Carol Danvers seems to return to Earth in a more long-term capacity, making her eventual appearance in a female Avengers team virtually guaranteed. Captain Marvel is a clear candidate to lead the female Avengers, as she is one of the MCU’s most powerful superheroes.

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, A.K.A. Scarlet Witch

Last Seen In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (2022)

Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch would be a powerful addition to the MCU’s all-female Avengers team. Wanda Maximoff had her innate abilities enhanced after being exposed to the Mind Stone during a HYDRA experiment, which gave her the powers of the Scarlet Witch, allowing her to alter reality itself. There is just one issue with trying to include Scarlet Witch on the team: she’s dead.

Despite dying at the end of 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU’s newest series, Agatha All Along, reckons with the possibility that she might actually be dead. If she is, the possibility to bring her back is also on the table. The Scarlet Witch is a formidable ally, but has also demonstrated her more dangerous and villainous tendencies, which may make other heroes hesitant to recruit her into the all-female Avengers, should she return to the MCU. This also raises the question if she would continue to be a villain or go back to her Avengers roots when that time comes.

Letitia Wright as Shuri, A.K.A. The Black Panther

Last Seen In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

Shuri was introduced in 2018’s Black Panther as Wakanda’s technological genius and sister to Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. Though she previously used sonic gauntlets to aid in fights against Killmonger and Thanos, 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever saw her consume a synthetic heart-shaped herb and become the MCU’s new Black Panther in the wake of her brother’s tragic death.

Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, A.K.A. She-Hulk

Last Seen In She-Hulk: Attorney At Law (2022)

Jennifer Walters’ She-Hulk has only made one appearance in the MCU so far, starring as the lawyer-turned-Hulk in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. After being exposed to her cousin Bruce Banner’s blood, Walters becomes She-Hulk, but is instantly more in control of her abilities than her cousin. Walters’ She-Hulk would be the perfect replacement for the Hulk in the MCU’s all-female Avengers, particularly since the team wouldn’t need to deal with any Jekyll and Hyde Hulk antics.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was canceled after one season that was rife with internet controversy. Now that Jennifer Walters won’t be turning into She-Hulk anytime soon in her own series, her place in the MCU feels up-in-the-air. She-Hulk deserves more time to continue to flesh out her character and a female Avengers project could do just that. While Walters has been reluctant to become a superhero, it’s likely she will bring her comic relief to a team in the MCU’s future.

Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, A.K.A. Photon

Last Seen In The Marvels (2023)

After appearing as the surrogate niece of Carol Danvers in the 1995-set Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau was finally gifted superpowers by traveling through the Scarlet Witch’s Westview Hex several times in 2021’s WandaVision. With the ability to sense, absorb and manipulate energies the average human can’t see, Monica Rambeau returned in 2023’s The Marvels to team up with her aunt.

Gemma Chan as Sersi

Last Seen In Eternals (2021)

Gemma Chan as Sersei in Eternals looking offscreen

2021’s Eternals may have introduced several new heroes that could make their way onto any number of MCU teams, but the Eternals team was led by Sersi after Ajak’s demise, setting her up for a major role in the MCU’s future. Sersi’s ability to manipulate matter at will makes her incredibly powerful, and made her a key element in the Eternals’ efforts to thwart the Celestial Tiamut’s emergence.

The biggest issue Sersi faces is the fact that the MCU has no plans for an Eternals sequel. Sersi’s place is shaky at best now, but she definitely deserves to stick around in some capacity. In Marvel Comics, Sersi is the only female Eternal who has battled alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, so it would be great to explore this dynamic in the live-action MCU.

Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, A.K.A. The Wasp

Last Seen In Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania (2023)

Despite being introduced to the MCU in 2015’s Ant-Man, Hope Van Dyne didn’t become the Wasp until 2018’s sequel. Not only skilled in combat, but also an expert in many fields of science and technology, Hope Van Dyne would make an interesting addition to the all-female Avengers team, as her intelligence and cunning rivals that of her fellow female heroes.

The biggest issue with including Hope Van Dyne in a female Avengers project is the fact that Evangeline Lilly announced that she will be stepping away from acting. Lilly has played Hope since her first appearance in Ant-Man, and even though the MCU has recast several characters before, it’s unclear if they will go the same route with Hope Van Dyne. There is always a chance that she could come back, but it might be a small one.

Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, A.K.A. The Wasp

Last Seen In Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania (2023)

michelle pfeiffer as janet van dyne in the mcu quantum realm

Janet Van Dyne was the original Wasp in the MCU, operating alongside Hank Pym’s Ant-Man prior to her becoming trapped in the Quantum Realm. Her roles in Ant-Man and the Wasp and Quantumania could have teased her suiting up as the size-changing hero once again, however. In Marvel Comics, Janet Van Dyne’s Wasp is a founding Avenger, so featuring her on an all-female Avengers team would be a brilliant full-circle moment.

Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie

Last Seen In The Marvels (2023)

Valkyrie sitting in a throne in Thor Love and Thunder

Valkyrie was already included in Avengers: Endgame’s A-Force tease, and as the new King of Asgard and close friend (perhaps more) to Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel, there’s no doubt she would be included on an all-female Avengers team. Since her introduction in Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie has grown significantly, taking her from the self-exiled loner to a real team-player in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif

Lady Sif’s return in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder raised hopes that she may be set up for a more substantial role in the MCU’s future, potentially among an all-female Avengers team. Her role in Thor: Love and Thunder was unfortunately small, but Sif was last seen training young Asgardians in New Asgard as she is one of Asgard’s strongest warriors, keeping the door open for her to return in future projects.

This would make her a huge asset to an all-female Avengers team, and would give Jaimie Alexander a more meaty MCU role, as she has always existed on the fringes of the franchise – far from her portrayal in Marvel Comics. This can be rectified with the female Avengers’ formation.

Danai Gurira as Okoye

Last Seen In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

Formerly the General of Wakanda’s Dora Milaje, an all-female group of elite warriors, Okoye has now become a Midnight Angel in the MCU, fitted with a new suit and new abilities. Mantis was able to subdue the Mad Titan Thanos in Infinity War, proving her strength, and no doubt would be able to in future skirmishes also.

Karen Gillan as Nebula

Nebula officially joined the battle against the Mad Titan Thanos, her adoptive father, in Avengers: Infinity War, and since then has been a staunch ally to several heroes. This includes the Avengers on Earth, meaning it’s possible she could rejoin the team in an all-female line-up in the MCU’s future. Like Sam Wilson is doing in Captain America: Brave New World, Captain Carter could also continue to carry on Steve Roger’s legacy in her own way.

Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie

Last Seen In Loki Season 2 (2023)

Since Loki has taken up his new role as protector of the entire multiverse, Sylvie could join the MCU’s main continuity as the new version of the God of Mischief. Sylvie’s magical abilities, particularly that to enchant others to do her bidding, would make her a formidable addition to an all-female Avengers team, and this could continue her own redemption arc, similarly to her more well-known variant.

Hopefully, her story in the potential second season could lead her to join a female Avengers squad.

Emilia Clarke as G’iah

Emilia Clarke as superpowered G'iah in Secret Invasion

Perhaps the most ridiculously powerful superhero now inhabiting the MCU is G’iah, Secret Invasion’s Skrull daughter of Talos, who became enhanced with the Harvest. Teased to be forming a team with MI6’s Sonya Falsworth at the end of Secret Invasion, G’iah is also a clear candidate for a future Avengers team, though would perhaps overshadow her teammates. Female Young Avengers

Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, A.K.A. Ms. Marvel

Last Seen In The Marvels (2023)

Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel is one of the most exciting new additions to the MCU, particularly after teaming up with Captain Marvel and Photon in The Marvels, and teasing a future as the leader of the MCU’s Young Avengers team. The Young Avengers’ formation will likely make her unavailable to join the all-female Avengers, but as she grows up, it’s possible she could use her identity as a mutant to join the X-Men, or join the female Avengers.

The Female Thunderbolts* Members

Thunderbolts* Is Scheduled To Release On May 2, 2025

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* is set to bring back several antiheroes and reformed villains from the MCU’s history, including the female characters Yelena Belova, Antonia Dreykov’s Taskmaster and Ava Starr’s Ghost. These three future antiheroes have the potential to join an all-female Avengers team, though their villainous pasts may make this difficult. Thunderbolts* looks to change that, though, as they will be working together in some capacity and possibly stepping into more heroic roles as a result.

Yelena Belova feels like an obvious choice, who has the potential to take over from her sister as the MCU’s Black Widow. If Taskmaster is truly free and has reformed into a hero, there is a possibility for her as well, as her skill set could be valuable. In the first trailer for Thunderbolts*, Ghost seems much more capable of controlling her powers, which could make her a powerful part of the team. Only time will tell whether any of these three characters, or any other female heroes, join a new team of Avengers in the MCU’s future.
