The Star Wars franchise is finally ready to give Princess Leia some long-awaited closure from her father, Darth Vader. The former Anakin Skywalker had two children, but only one of them had the chance to get to know him after finding out they were related. While Vader aggressively recruited Luke for the dark side, Leia never so much as met Vader again after finding out he was her biological father.

Comicbook.com released a preview for Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #1 – written by Alex Segura, with art by Leonard Kirk and Stefano Raffaele – and in one of these panels, Princess Leia gets a semblance of closure for a lack of fatherly connection with Darth Vader.

This one panel shows promising potential for the themes and ideas that the series could explore, including previously untapped character analysis regarding Leia’s feelings about having a dictator for a father.

Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising will explore the Star Wars universe post-ROTJ, meaning it will likely delve into Leia’s reaction to discovering Darth Vader is her father, considering that she never got the closure afforded by speaking to Vader face-to-face as a father. A dynamic like that would certainly be complicated, as Leia only ever knew Vader as a captor, villain, and conqueror of her planet Alderaan. To discover that this villain was her father would’ve been devastating, and Marvel’s Star Wars has a chance to explore the emotional fallout from that.

In the original Star Wars trilogy, Princess Leia never had a relationship with Darth Vader beyond their tense, antagonistic interactions in the original film. Return of the Jedi eventually revealed that both she and Luke Skywalker are brothers, and that Leia, too, was a child of Vader.
